What Do I Do if a Toothache Hits on a Saturday?
It never happens at a convenient time. A toothache that was manageable Friday afternoon becomes unbearable Saturday morning. You try to tough it out. You search for an emergency dentist in Pueblo. You find that most offices are closed for the weekend, and the ones that are open don't take walk-ins. Dr. Matthew Chapman of Comfort Dental Pueblo South knows this story well. He hears it regularly from patients who end up in his waiting room after exhausting every other option. "If you have a toothache in Southern Colorado on a Saturday morning, we are it," he says. That's not an exaggeration. It's geography. Why Is Dental Access So Limited in Southern Colorado?
Pueblo and the broader Southern Colorado region are underserved when it comes to dental care. There aren't many offices south of Colorado Springs, and even fewer that maintain Saturday hours or accept walk-in patients. For someone dealing with a dental emergency, the nearest alternative might be hours away. Dr. Chapman saw this need clearly when he joined the Comfort Dental Pueblo South team, and it's shaped the way the practice operates. "We have patients routinely drive two to three hours to our office every day," he explains. "A lot of them without an appointment, they walk in in pain, and no one else will help."What Does a Saturday Look Like at Comfort Dental Pueblo South?
Dr. Chapman describes it honestly: it's something like an emergency room. The most walk-ins he can remember on a single Saturday was thirteen, in addition to his regularly scheduled patients. The office is only open six hours on Saturdays. That's a lot of care delivered in a short window of time. Walk-in patients are told upfront that the team will get to them, but the wait could be long. And they wait, sometimes for hours, because they have no other option. "The people who are the most patient are the walk-ins," Dr. Chapman notes. They know what they're getting when they come in: access to care that they couldn't find anywhere else. That's worth waiting for. What Kinds of Emergencies Can Comfort Dental Pueblo South Handle?
The range is broad. On the same Saturday, the team might be managing a full-mouth rehabilitation in one chair and treating someone who walked in for acute pain relief in another. Dr. Chapman describes delivering complex restorative work, including full sets of crowns and bridges, while simultaneously getting walk-in patients out of immediate pain. "We treat them both the same," he says. "They both have needs, and I can help." That flexibility, the ability to handle both highly complex and basic urgent care on any given day, is a direct result of the Comfort Dental model. Because the practice is locally owned and operated, it can adapt to what the Pueblo community actually needs rather than following a one-size-fits-all national playbook.Should You Wait Until Monday?
In most cases, dental pain doesn't improve on its own over a weekend. Infections can worsen. A cracked tooth can crack further. A toothache that seems manageable Saturday morning can become genuinely dangerous by Monday. If you're dealing with a dental emergency in Pueblo or anywhere in Southern Colorado, waiting isn't a good strategy. And if it's a Saturday morning and you can't find anyone else, Dr. Chapman's message is straightforward: come in.Pueblo's Emergency Dental Option Is Open Now
